Bristol Boat Regatta

On Friday night, Bevan and I wondered into Town to check out the festivities at Bristol's annual Boat Regatta.

We headed over to the Lloyds Bank Amphitheatre, where DJ Derek was spinning some tunes...

For those who don't know, DJ Derek is a white 65-year-old reggae (and alcohol) lover with a Jamaican accent, and has been the all-night resident at St Pauls' Star & Garter pub for as long as I can remember. He was very entertaining, not only with his drunken gesticulations during the various Bob Marley tunes that he played, but he also told a little story between each of the tracks. It was a fresh new approach to DJing, but everyone seemed to be loving him.

Bristol was looking particularly picturesque...

As this old boat moored next to us, I couldn't believe my star-struck eyes when I looked on board to notice this gentleman...

Yes, It's none other than HTV West's Bob Crampton.

My night was complete.

When I was at Ashton Court once I saw that girl who walked out of one of the Big Brothers in the first week.

Anyway, nice piccies again Andy but it doesn't look like you put much effort into the panorama. Given the exceptionally high standard of previous offerings I feel you have let yourself down there mate haha. I expect you were pissed though.

Looked like a great evening for it. Bob Crampton eh? Can't say I remember seeing much of him on the box.

We were at the 7shed the other night and Keith Chegwin walked in then promptly left again.
May have been to do with James pointing and shouting loudly 'thats Keith Chegwin' maybe....?

Was Cheggers pissed?

Yes, and did he have clothes on, for a change?

Well, I'm impressed. We really are rubbing shoulders with fame - Bob Crampton, Simon from Blue Peter (Who?!), and some old Big Brother reject...not to mention Cheggers.

Thanks for the feedback on the panorama Jonny, it was quite a tricky one, and I left it uncropped because otherwise it chopped off most of the boats at the front. I'll try harder next time.

I'm glad to hear it Andy. I do enjoy those panoramas.

Did you see Cheggers yourself?

No, unfortunately not. I don't think I'd have been able to contain my excitement.

That looks nothing like Bob Crampton. Are you sure? I don't understand how this has turned into a kind of rubbish celebrity spotting comments section when Andy's just taken a photo of some random grey haired bloke.

Anyway, I sat on the table next to Les Ferdinand in a bar a few weeks ago - he does tv work out here. We had to keep staring to make sure it was him as he looks 18.

Sorry to mention a real celebrity.

Yes. I did see her. She was sat on the table next to me.

Surely you must remember Mike? You and Ella were there, and H for that matter.

Thanks for reminding me about that H. Had I remembered I would have written about her, and not that BB idiot, that's for sure.

Does Daddy G count? I saw him in The Watershed. Ooh, and Pete Postlethwaite as he was leaving The Old Vic. They are all coming back to me now.

Oh, and Lennox Lewis at The Gate (or was it Herbie Hide?). And Tony Robinson.

And that Kate bird from Fame Academy who lives in Bedmo. She was at The Gate as well.

Yes, I can remember very clearly you saying that it was Rachel Stevens, Jonny.

At 8:34 am, Blogger Jonny said...

So you remember very clearly that it was her then?

Not impressed with the Daddy G and Pete Postlethwaite spots, as I used to serve them beer in my Watershed barman days (oo, and Michela Strachan too). Pete's face would grow more red with each pint.

I Don't remember seeing Lennox Lewis or "that Kate bird from fame academy" at the gate, but I see Tony Robinson there all the time, in fact I once took a piss next to him in the Wycombe Wanderers away-end toilets, an adapted portocabin.

As for Les Ferdinand...Who?

And yes, I remember the Rachel Stevens assertion as well. I suppose she had long hair. She was female too.

And she was Rachel Stevens.

I didn't think I'd get away with Daddy G or Pete, but it was worth a try.

Maybe you were in Asia when Lennox (or Herbie) and that Kate bird turned up. You didn't miss much - except City's record breaking unbeaten run.

Thanks for reminding me.

By the way, did nobody notice the lady to the right of Bob drinking from a wine glass? I believe she's also an HTV presenter, even less famous than Bob.

No mate, can't say I recognise her at all.

It's a shame that foxy weather girl wasn't on the boat.
