Frankfurt - The day of the game

On the morning of the game, we woke just in time for our free breakfast, but I was too hungover to stomach anything but orange juice and tea. We decided to make our way back to the main square to see what was going on. At first, as we walked over the bridge, things seemed surprisingly quiet.

Suddenly as we passed the entrance to the fans park, things got a lot noisier, as there were hundreds of England fans queuing to get in, even though it was five hours or so before kick-off.
It wasn't until we reached the main square until we began to realise the full extent of the English invasion. Some said there were 50000, others had heard the number was over 100000. How are you supposed to tell the difference anyway?

We started drinking at about 1pm, and found ourselves a spot to watch the game on the road outside our hostel, mainly so we could keep popping back in for the cheap beer.

Again, the atmosphere was fantastic, despite the lack of entertainment on the pitch, for the most part. Unlike the previous night though, this time the English even outnumbered the Germans.

After the game, we returned to our room, and heard loads of chanting going on outside of the hostel. It turns out the local fire service were spraying down the fans outside...
So we thought we'd investigate further...

And I'm really glad we did, if only for this photo - what a beauty!!

We watched the first half of the Sweden game on the other side of the river in the fans park, and despite not getting a seat, we soon realised that there clearly was a much better view. Damn cheap beer...

But soon we were itching to get back to the main square and witness the carnage. There's really no need for me to say anything else. A picture is worth 1000 words, or something...

Superb Andy......

Nice tats!! Reckon they could be contenders for "How to get an ASBO".

Is that guy on the fountain waving at you? Do you know him? I thought it was Chewie at first.

Is there more to come? I sure hope so.

I just had another look.....that shaved chest one is class.

I think my chest wig could handle that.

He should have used some suncream though!

Yeah, nice post Simpson. Shaved chest one is a classic..I like the way he had got burnt on the cross to get it red.

Was there no trouble at all then? You would think that where there are men with England tats, there is bound to be trouble surely?

That's genius. Were you two joining in, or just wryly taking photos? There was some well nasty sunburn there. Looks like it might be a beautiful place, too, when the rest of the chavs leave.

By the way, you can tell the difference between 5000 and 10000 by counting them.

Jonny - No, we didn't know that guy on the fountain, but Chew asked him to wave for a photo none-the-less.

Rich - We almost saw some trouble, but the police managed to get inbetween and sort it out. There were more problems in London, Manchester, and Liverpool apparently.

Mike - The only sneaky photos I took were the sunburnt tattoos. Must admit I was pretty scared that they might turn round and take offence. And it was 50 to 100 thousand - sod counting that...
